Dining Out: Serendipity 3

You may remember that back in January while on a work trip to New York City I went to Serendipity. So naturally when I was planning my trip to Las Vegas, I felt I had to visit Serendipity there, you know, just to compare. For research purposes.

On our last morning in Las Vegas we walked down the sunny strip from Planet Hollywood to Caesar's Palace. We arrived at around 10:45am and there was already a 45 minute wait! We had been planning on this as our last meal all week, so we decided to stick it out.

The ample wait time allowed me to poke around the restaurant and I fell in love with this sign of the Serendipity queen. I'd like to hang this in my house please!

When our buzzer finally went off after 50 minutes of waiting, we went inside to see the hostess. The inside of Serendipity is very whimsical. The dining room is mostly white and pink and has these large floral, shaded chandeliers. It's very Alice in Wonderland.

We requested a table outside on the balcony. It was our last day in town and we wanted to soak up as much sun as possible before heading back to snowy Boston.

The patio is shaded by a hot pink and orange canopy which casts a colored shadow over the deck.

The view from our high top table was awesome. We could see up and down the strip in both directions and we had a front row seat to the giant photo of Donny and Marie Osmond at the Flamingo.

Serendipity's brunch menu is extensive. Everything from eggs to omelettes to salads to pizzas.

We decided to start with Serendipity's signature drink, the frozen hot chocolate. I went with the mint version which came garnished with an Andes mint chocolate bar. The concoction tasted like a frozen, blended Thin Mint cookie.

Our waitress came over and asked, "How is the fro ho?" Apparently that is short hand for frozen hot chocolate. Saying that out loud still makes me laugh.

After we'd already waited 50 minutes for a table, we thought our waiting was over. We were wrong.

After ordering our entrees we proceeded to watch all the tables around us get food before we did, even parties that had arrived after us. I would say our food took close to 40 minutes to show up.

My coworker ordered a pizza with roasted red peppers and broccoli. The serving size was huge but she said it was totally underwhelming. A major disappointment after we waited so long.

I was in a breakfast mood and ordered the Central Park omelette which was egg whites with spinach, tomato and avocado. I thought the veggies would come inside the omelette. Instead, only the spinach was inside and the tomato (just two small ones) and the avocado were on top.

By the time it got to me, the avocado was already browning. The whole dish was a bust.

Overall, our trip to Serendipity in Las Vegas was a let down. We spent almost two hour waiting between getting a table and receiving our food. The hostess was rude, our waitress didn't seem bothered that we hadn't seen our food and once we did get it, it was lackluster.

I will admit, it's hard to resist the charm and whimsy of Serendipity, but if you go in Las Vegas, just sit at the bar and have the fro ho.

Have you been to this Serendipity location? Did you have a similar experience?
