Gossip Girl: Proposals

I am in complete denial that tonight's episode of "Gossip Girl" marks the half way point of the final season. This hour focused on the debutante ball which brought me back to the early seasons of the show and made me nostalgic for the days at Constance.

Early in the hour Serena discovers a stunning diamond engagement ring in Steven's brief case. Moments after, Sage uncovers the same ring and immediately drums up a plan to derail the proposal. Where does she go for help? Blair Waldorf, of course.

Blair agrees to help Sage in exchange for Sage wearing an Eleanor Waldorf design to the debutante ball. While at the ball Sage manages to get ahold of Georgina's phone, giving her access to the Serena/Dan sex tape. Oh boy.

Meanwhile, Dan is Blair's date to the ball. She comes down that spiral staircase in an incredible, black sequin gown. I said it after this season's first episode, but the stylists have seriously upped their game this year, especially with the gowns.

At the ball Serena confronts Lily about her conversation with Steven. Lily responds, "Serena, you don't have boyfriends, you have life rafts." Dead on, Lily!

During her debut, Sage tricks the hosts into playing Serena and Dan's sex tape for all to see. Steven immediately ends things with Serena and Blair rips into Dan. Nate walks away from Sage declaring, "You may be legal, but this is way too high school for me." You go, Nate!

The most interesting story line tonight was Ivy's. At the start of the hour we hear her talking to Lola on the phone saying, "I'll be sure to leave Lily with nothing." She may have said more but I was distracted by her crazy, backless top. You could practically see her butt crack! Good grief.

Separately, Ivy also seems to be working on something where she secretly supports Rufus' gallery. She purchased one of his pieces anonymously and then he finds out (via her P.O. Box address) and confronts her. She winds up revealing that her bank account includes Carol's portion of Cee Cee's fortune.

Lastly, Ivy also seems to be conspiring with Chuck. She heads into Bart and Lily's apartment, gets caught when Bart comes home and then pretends to be the cleaning lady's daughter. When she walks out she has a mysterious smirk on her face. Was she supposed to get caught? I don't get it.

At the close of the episode Serena and Dan go out for burgers and fries, Chuck asks Blair to continue waiting for him and Bart admits to Lily he did illegal business in Sudan.

In previews for next week (episode six of ten) it looks like Serena and Dan are going to hook up again. This is all coming full circle.
