Shop: Folklorica

Those who read the blog regularly know that though I refer to myself as a lifelong Bostonian, the truth is that I grew up in a suburb west of the city called Newton. There are 14 "villages" of Newton and though my childhood home was in the village called Newtonville, I spent all of my shopping and dining out time in the village called Newton Centre.

For me, the hidden gem of Newton Centre is a gift shop called Folklorica that specializes in jewelry. My mom, my sister and I are all serious devotees.

Two weeks ago I popped into Folklorica in search of a birthday gift for someone special and while I was checking out I told the sales girl that I was really impressed with their Facebook page and all of the photos they had been uploading lately. That comment led to me meeting the store owner and him inviting me to contact their marketing person about coming back to visit and highlighting my favorite pieces for the blog.

Today I had the privilege of spending an hour and a half at Folklorica getting lost in all things sparky! The staff allowed me to hand pick and photograph all of my favorite pieces.

Right when I walked in the door I noticed these Pono bangles ($22 each).

They are candy colored and add the perfect spring touch to any outfit.

I love the idea of stacking and re-stacking them in a different rainbow every time.

Next I noticed these bohemian, elastic headbands by Deepa Gurnani ($38-$62).

I think these would be stunning to accessorize a wedding outfit. I know I am always looking for new ways to jazz up my wedding ensembles.

Continuing my tour of all things shiny, I was magnetized toward these Sonya Renee earrings made of druzy ($110 a pair).

Honestly, I didn't want to leave without these!

Against the back wall in a glass case I spotted these Gerard Yosca bangles ($85 each). I love these! They feel like the perfect accessory for summering on the Vineyard or Nantucket.

Look at the fun clasps! These bangles are on hinges, so no matter the size of your hands or wrists, they'll fit.

I seem to have a thing for bracelets as I couldn't get enough of these Isharya cuffs. This one has two bands ($325).

This single bangle, which has multicolored druzy, has a free spirit style ($225).

Hanging at the register are these Nashelle initial necklaces. I love these as a birthday or holiday gift. They are embellished with semi-precious stones ($68 each, you can custom order the letter and the type of stone).

The Folklorica team was kind enough to disrupt their current window display to allow me to examine and fall in love with their collection of Alexis Bittar jewelry. On Thursday April 12th Folklorica will be celebrating their 40th anniversary with a party featuring Robert Penn, brand ambassador for Alexis Bittar! Too cool. The party is from 5pm - 9pm and is free to attend. Come to drink wine, nibble on tasty treats and to meet Robert!

I recognized these hand cut, lucite Alexis Bittar bangles right away.

Stack them in any order and they look fantastic (Large bangles are $185, Medium bangles are $148).

I am obsessed with these lucite bangles with a gold overlay, which are also Alexis Bittar ($128 each).

Though the lucite pieces are the most recognizable of Bittar's work, he also does pieces in other materials. I am swooning over this bracelet ($225) and ring ($198).

I mistakenly tried on the ring. I didn't want to take it off! It's so glamorous!

Now ladies, if you happen to drag your husband or boyfriend with you to Folklorica, fear not, they also have amazing gifts for men! For example, this bottle opener from Tokens & Icons is made from the original parquet floor of Boston Garden ($75)!

It even comes with a certificate of authenticity!

If your guy is more of a baseball fan, they also have bottle openers made from bats used by the Boston Red Sox ($110).

There is a code on the bottom of every opener and if you visit the manufacturer's website and you plug in the code, it will tell you which Red Sox player swung/broke that exact bat! Seriously, how cool is that?

Folklorica has fun gifts for every person in your life. I was taken by these beautiful luggage tags which would make a great honeymoon gift or a gift before a friend or family member goes on a big trip or to study abroad.

Are you ready to head to Folklorica? Mark your calendar for Thursday April 12th, 5pm - 9pm for their 40th anniversary party. Meet Robert Penn of Alexis Bittar and perhaps treat yourself to something sparkly!

Visit Folklorica at 61 Union Street in Newton Centre. They are directly across the street from the Newton Centre T stop.
