Tea Time: Keko Cafe

Sunday afternoon of my New York City trip I was walking around Murray Hill with two friends when we decided to warm up at Keko Cafe.

Keko Cafe is completely unassuming and it would be very easy to walk right by. Thankfully I had a local to show me this hidden gem!

As we approached the front door my friend said, "Moll, look! They have a chalkboard sign! You love chalkboard signs." True story.

When we walked in I felt like I'd been transported to Europe. Americans so do not understand leisurely coffee/tea drinking like Europeans do.

Keko Cafe has brightly colored yellow walls covered in knick knacks. It felt a bit like eating in a consignment shop, but without that strange smell.

I loved the way they displayed all their coffee beans!

On the counter were glass jars full of baked goods - perfect for dunking in your coffee or tea.

We sat at the table right in the front window. We were sitting beneath a beautiful bird cage hanging from the ceiling.

We decided to share a pot of tea. There were at least thirty flavor choices on the menu, but we finally came to a consensus and chose Jasmine.

Though we were just looking to sip on this trip, Keko offers "Keko Tea Time" which comes with a pot of tea, finger sandwiches, scones, jam and butter. I definitely want to come back and do that!

Our tea came in a royal blue tea pot with three saucers and three Lavazza mugs. The tea was a greenish/yellowish color and was piping hot. I didn't wind up loving it, but it warmed me right up!

At all the tables surrounding us customers were sharing tea, coffee, scones, cookies, sandwiches and salads. All of the food looked great. For those who are soccer fans, Keko also plays international soccer games on their TVs.

It's so easy to get your caffeine fix at Starbucks, but for a true coffee or tea experience, take the time to sit, sip and enjoy at Keko Cafe.

Relax like a European at the corner of 30th and Madison Avenue.
