Rental Review: 4 Movies To Avoid

Normally when I rent a movie I share my review with you immediately. Over the last few weeks, many of my regular TV shows have gone on winter hiatus: Gossip Girl, 90210, Grey's Anatomy, Modern Family and more. As such, I've had plenty of time to watch movies from Netflix.

Sadly, the last four movies I rented were all a total bust! I know many of you have vacation time coming up and in the winter months that typically means snuggling on the couch and watching movies. I am about to save you from hours and hours of poor film that you could never get back. You're welcome.

Morning Glory

I intended to see Morning Glory in the theaters, but never made it. Rachel McAdams, Diane Keaton and Harrison Ford, seems like a winning combination, yes? No! This movie was such a let down. Rachel McAdams' character spends the entire movie as the struggling, ugly duckling, gets a glimpse of what it's like to be the swan and then willingly decides to stay with the ducklings. What a waste.

It's Complicated

It's Complicated is another case of a great cast that didn't deliver. Meryl Streep (MERYL STREEP!), Alec Baldwin, Steve Martin and Jon Krasinski. I mean, come on! I didn't believe the chemistry between Meryl and Alec. The only thing that got me excited about this movie were the two scenes where Meryl bakes.

Friend With Benefits

I was really looking forward to Friends with Benefits because well, I love Justin Timberlake. At twenty seven years old I am not even ashamed to say that openly. I knew the plot would be predictable, but I didn't know it would so uninteresting. The highlight of the entire movie was the opening scene (set to a Bruno Mars song - bonus points!) which featured Emma Stone and Andy Samberg. First three minutes - great, next ninety minutes - useless. There were a ton of celebrity cameos in this film - Woody Harrelson, Bryan Greenberg, Jenna Elfman, Patricia Clarkson and the kid who plays Luke on Modern Family. Not even the cameos could save it! Not even naked Justin could save it!

A Single Man

What girl doesn't love Colin Firth? What girl doesn't love Tom Ford? What girl doesn't love their collaboration on A Single Man? This girl! How could two of my favorite men join forces to create something so . . . so . . . boring! The movie was visually beautiful, I'll give you that, but it was slow, it had zero moments of redemption and I when it was over, I found myself asking out loud, "That was it?"

Ladies and gents, do yourself a favor and make sure none of these movies make it into your DVD player, onto your On Demand movies or your DVR.
