Stay: Ames Hotel

Last night I had the incredible pleasure of staying downtown at the Ames Hotel. The Ames is the oldest skyscraper in the city of Boston.

The Ames opened its doors as a hotel exactly two years ago. In fact, when we checked in yesterday we were offered cupcakes from neighboring shop, Sweet, as part of the hotel's anniversary celebration.

I love the lobby of this hotel. There is an amazing piece of art hanging from the ceiling and the silver reflects the sunlight beautifully.

The check in desk has a bright orange panel behind it that screams, "Hello! Welcome to the Ames! We like bright colors!" The ladies at the check in desk wear black and white pin stripe dresses with an orange belt to match the wall.

The furniture in the lobby is tres chic. I like all the different chairs and lighting.

Once we received our room number we headed toward the elevator. When the doors opened we saw the elevator walls are padded! This is so Chuck Bass! The only other place I have seen elevators like this at at the Soho House in New York City.

I loved our key cards, which had an "A" for Ames on them.

We weaved down the hall of the 15th floor and found our room. When we opened the door we practically walked into this chair and table. A great spot to drop our bags!

Right away we noticed the spacious bathroom. The bathroom is the size of my entire apartment. The simple design feels so serene.

You could literally fit ten people in this shower. Please note the heated towel rack to the left.

The sink was wide enough for two people to stand at and get ready and I appreciated the mirror that ran the entire length of the wall.

On the counter there is a card that encourages you to re-use your towels and sheets during your stay to go green. The sign reads:

On the other side of the room was our king size bed. The bed was low to the ground with simple bedding. It was super comfortable!

The bed had a postcard on it with a message I loved:

Next to the bed was a funky clock radio which served as our DJ while we got ready to go out that night.

The art work in the room was minimal, but did include three plates mounted to the wall:

There was a flat panel TV and a desk (not that we planned on doing any work).

The desk had a notepad with that signature, Ames "A."

There was also a window seat hidden behind our curtains! Perfect for zipping up those fall boots.

In the closet is a mini bar that is not only stocked, but has signature Boston items and Ames gear! If you want an Ames ski hat, this is where they live.

The design of the rooms at the Ames are minimalist, but the bathroom feels like an oasis, the bed is as close to a cloud as I've ever been and the customer service from the hotel staff was unparalleled. Every single hotel employee introduced themselves by name and was sure to say, "if there is anything you need, please contact me and let me know what I can do to help." Finally, this location really can't be beat. It's in the center of the Financial District so you can walk to Faneuil Hall, Downtown Crossing, the Public Garden or the North End. Pretty fantastic!

Visit the Ames Hotel at 1 Court Street, directly outside the Government Center T stop.

*Full disclosure, one of my best friends is the food & beverage manager at the Woodward, which is the restaurant in the Ames Hotel. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
