Movie Musings: Breaking Dawn - Part I

People are often surprised to know that I read all the Twilight books and religiously see the movies. Well, the secret's out, I'm a Twihard.

I bought tickets for the 11:30am show on Saturday in Harvard Square (the movie opened Thursday night at midnight). I've learned that Saturday matinees are the best way to see these movies. It's cheaper, less crowded and only two days after the premiere.

Let me say up front, I loved this movie. It's been a while since I finished the book, so I wasn't as nit picky as I was when I saw Twilight (the first movie) because when I saw that one, I had finished the book just a few weeks before.

The opening scenes of the movie are of Bella and Edward's wedding. This wedding was beyond gorgeous. I can't even imagine how much money it would cost to re-create that floral masterpiece in real life. Wow.

I loved the scene with the wedding speeches, particularly Anna Kendricks' speech. I kind of forgot she was in these films!

I adored all the scenes of Bella and Edward's honeymoon, particularly when she asks for a few "human minutes" to brush her teeth, do her hair and shave her legs. Ha!

I am 100 percent Team Jacob, so I was thrilled with how much screen time his character got! The scene where he imprints on baby Renesme was hilarious. So cheesy!

The make up department did an incredible job making Bella look sickly during her pregnancy. Give those people an Oscar!

The birth scene at the end of the movie was terribly graphic. I suppose it was that bad in the book, but my imagination didn't conjure up so much blood.

The best thing about the movie was that even though I know how it ends, I kept thinking, "please let Bella be ok, please let her live, please, she has to!" If the movie can make me forget and get lost in the moment, that is a job well done!

I can't wait for Part II, which will focus on the war against the Volturi. When I read that part of the book I kept thinking, "now this is going to make a great movie!"

Did you see Breaking Dawn - Part I? What did you think?
