Holiday: Boston Food Bloggers Swap

A few weeks ago I saw a post on the Boston Food Bloggers Facbeook page about signing up to participate in a holiday gift swap. I love gift swaps and the idea of swapping with other bloggers seemed to elevate the fun to a new level.

When I clicked the link to register I read all the details and as it turns out, the swap is between Boston bloggers and bloggers in Austin, TX! How cool is that?

After signing up I wasn't sure how long it would take to hear about my match, but today when I got the email announcing my swap buddy I nearly flew out of my desk chair with excitement! I dropped everything I was doing, opening a new Firefox window for my buddy's blog and began learning as much about her as I could. Without further ado, I present to you . . . drum roll . . . Mel!

Mel, the founder and blogger of The Clothes Make the Girl, is, in a word: badass. Mel is a CrossFit loyalist (CrossFit is one of the most difficult work out regimens on the planet) and a roller derby girl! In addition to her super human strength, Mel is also an accomplished author. She has published a book called "Roller Girl: Totally True Tales from the Track" and on December 6th she has a second book coming out! Her second book "Well Fed: Paleo Recipes for People Who Love to Eat" is a guide to eating and cooking on the Paleo diet.

Though Mel and I clearly have different day to day routines, we have many things in common. We share a passion for fashion, particularly fierce black outfits, animal prints and bling. We are also both voracious readers. I already have a handful of ideas for items to include in her care package.

Since the holiday swap was started by a group of food bloggers, naturally part of the swap is to share food native to Boston. Before I was even paired up I was thinking about what is typical Boston food. Clam chowder, lobster, baked beans, Boston cream pie, JP Licks and Dunkin Donuts came to mind right away.

I emailed back and forth today with Mel and learned that her diet, the Paleo diet, excludes grains, sugars, legumes and caffeine. Well, back to the drawing board! I couldn't help but laugh when I thought about Mel assuming she'd send Texas BBQ items to me (the vegetarian) and I thought I'd send coffee and desserts to her (which she stays away from).

Here's where you come in. I would love your help brainstorming the best food of Boston to send to Mel that respects the Paleo diet (no grains, sugar, legumes or caffeine). Hit me with your genius! Mel - no peeking!
