Dining Out: Woodward (Part II)

This past weekend I stayed at the Ames Hotel, largely because I already had a reservation for food & beverage manager Dana Searle's brunch at the Woodward on Sunday. Each month Dana hosts a brunch complete with specialty cocktails and a DJ.

This Sunday's brunch was spectacular. We arrived promptly at 1:00pm and were taken to a comfortable booth in the front corner of the restaurant.

As soon as we settled into our seats we noticed these petite jars of jam. How cute are these?

The Woodward's brunch menu is agonizing because they have so many great options for breakfast and lunch. In fact, the menu is separated by two headers, one that reads "I want breakfast!" and one that reads "I want lunch!" Cute.

I decided to create my own omlette with feta cheese, spinach and roasted tomatoes. When it arrived, I noticed right away that the spinach was fresh, not frozen. This is rare and so nice! The omlette had very generous helpings of feta cheese and red and yellow tomatoes.

The omlette also came with home fries and a biscuit. The potatoes were nicely seasoned, perfectly crisped and tasted excellent when dunked into cold ketchup.

I ate the biscuit with the blueberry jam. I had been debating between the omlette and the brioche French toast, but the biscuit with the jam really satisfied that sweet craving.

Next to me, my friend ordered the mushroom and truffle hash which comes with two eggs (she chose sunny side up) and a biscuit. I stole a bite of the hash and it was awesome! Hash usually has meat, so it was really nice to taste one that didn't.

Across from me, a friend took the lunch route and ordered the grilled cheese which comes with tomato and bacon and a side of tomato soup.

The grilled cheese is served on thickly cut egg bread and the tomato soup is divine. This is my usual order (without the bacon) and I was jealous watching my friend smile with every bite of the tomato soup.

As I mentioned earlier, there were specialty cocktails in honor of this brunch. There was a Passion Punch and the DB Bloody Mary.

I opted for the Passion Punch which was Absolut Citron, passion fruit puree, simple syrup and soda water. It was so delicious! It tasted like juice. You couldn't taste the alcohol at all. This is dangerous!

In addition to the great food, drinks and cozy booth, we were treated to the musical stylings of DJ Foxy. He was incredibly handsome (in a scruffy, hipster way) and played some of my favorite Motown hits, disco anthems and bubbly pop tunes. I couldn't have DJ-ed it better myself.

Dana's brunch is a monthly occurrence at the Woodward, so keep your eyes peeled for the announcement about the December one!

If you don't want to wait until Dana's next brunch to experience the Woodward, visit them anytime at 1 Court Street, behind the Government Center T stop.

*Full disclosure, Dana Searle is one of my nearest and dearest friends. All views expressed in this review are my own.
