Dining Out: Noir

Sunday night I had planned to meet one of my favorite girls in Harvard Square for an early dinner. I was craving the taco salad from Border Cafe, but when I suggested that she said, "Hmmm, I just showered this afternoon and I'm afraid if we go there, I'll stink of burrito." Fair point.

I suggested Russell House Tavern, but when she realized I had already been there and already blogged it, she said, "No! I want to go somewhere you've never been so you take pictures." Well then!

After a lap around the square, we settled on Noir in the Charles Hotel. I have walked by Noir countless times, but had never gone in.

When you approach Noir, you have to walk through a red beaded curtain to enter.

Noir has a sultry, bordello vibe. The entire bar is black and red.

We had our pick of tables and selected a round, leather booth in the back corner.

Our bubbly waitress arrived and handed us the sleek, black menus. The menus are actually horizontally oriented and the pages flip like a flip book.

Noir is known for their cocktails, so we happily selected two of their signature drinks. The Sazerac for my friend and the Black Dahlia for me. The Black Dahlia was vodka, triple sec, pom juice, blackberries and lemon. There was so much real fruit in the drink, it was great!

For dinner we decided to split a few menu items. We started with the pumpkin soup, an excellent fall dish.

The soup was piping hot, creamy and had toasted pumpkin seeds as a garnish. That little crunch was very nice.

Next up was the mixed green salad with green apples, walnuts and feta cheese. I love green apples! They made the dish.

Our final dinner item was the mushroom pizza. We didn't realize we had ordered so many items with feta cheese! It was a bit of feta overload for me, but the mushrooms tasted fantastic.

My friend had been to Noir before and when our waitress offered us a dessert menu, my friend highly recommended the warm chocolate cookie. No arguments here!

The cookie was amazing! It was warm, gooey and packed a mega chocolate flavor. It was so yummy. I would go back just for that!

Noir is a great date spot. It's quiet, sexy and the food is fresh and delicious. The next time you're scratching your head for a place to meet your online dating suitor, suggest Noir.
