Dining Out: Fritto Misto

Saturday night of our Los Angeles trip the conference was over and we had the night to ourselves. Before we left Boston I arranged for us to spend Saturday night with a friend who grew up in Brentwood. We met at her house and then in true L.A. style, she drove us to dinner in her Prius.

We arrived at an Italian place called Fritto Misto. This place was super popular!

We put our name in and waited about forty five minutes to be seated. While waiting I had time to notice the inviting decor and the delicious food on every nearby table.

Once we were seated I realized the tables were made from wine barrels!

The menu was extensive, including a make your own pasta page. You could choose a type of pasta, a sauce and countless toppings.

While we looked over the menu our waitress brought us warm, crusty bread with butter.

Our local guide for the evening ordered us the greens and gorgonzola salad to start. The salad was delicious! The veggies were fresh, the cheese was bold and delicious and the dressing was excellent.

We all wound up ordering our own custom, pasta creations. Our L.A. lady ordered the rice pasta with goat cheese and broccoli. When her plate arrived she said, "I love places that don't skimp on the goat cheese!"

If you have a gluten allergy, you've come to the right place! The rice pasta is a great option.

My coworker ordered the whole wheat pasta with veggies. She said she was a bit disappointed and that the texture of the pasta was too gummy.

I decided on the rigatoni with arrabbiata sauce, broccoli and mushrooms. It was outstanding! I would order this combo again and again and again. The sauce had just the right kick, the pasta was yummy and the veggies were fresh and perfectly cooked. Writing about it is making me hungry!

We were too full for dessert, but we did see it in the case while we were waiting to be seated and the selection is solid.

Fritto Misto is a short walk from the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica. Wander away from the tourist traps and indulge in this authentic Italian cuisine.
