Dining Out: Casa

Our second night in Los Angeles we decided to have dinner at a place we passed the day before on our walk back from Bottega Louie called Casa. We noticed Casa right away because it had what I'd describe as giant eggs, or maybe spaceships, right outside on its patio. See for yourself:

I have never seen anything like this in my life! When we approached the hostess stand we met the bubbly hostess Katie and loved her immediately. She's also an east coast girl, hailing from Philadelphia. We became fast friends and she told us we could have our pick of egg/spaceship.

We took our seats in the egg/spaceship in the center of the patio. As we settled in, we couldn't help but notice the incredible views of the financial district. These are the views from my seat:

When Katie returned we asked for her advice on the drink menu. She told us their house margarita does not use a mix, it's just tequila, lime juice and agave nectar. She said, "it's basically a Skinny Girl margarita." Well, we didn't need any further convincing. We ordered a pitcher.

Our pitcher came with plenty of ice (it's a bit warmer in L.A. than it is here) and our glasses came rimmed with salt. The margaritas were delicious! They tasted like fresh squeezed lime juice and I could have had ten more.

Dining at Casa guarantees complimentary yellow corn tortilla chips (house made), salsa and a chipotle crema. I couldn't get enough of that chipotle crema! It reminded me of the one at Back Bay's Lolita, only with a bit more kick.

Since we were at a Mexican restaurant, we couldn't pass on the guac. We ordered the guacamole to start, which Katie delivered and explained had a side of jalapeno puree and their "F You" salsa. Translation, that sh*t is hot.

I was brave and tried the F You salsa. It was a slow burn, taunting you just as you thought the heat was over.

After plenty of chips, dips and margs, we finally decided to order some dinner. My coworker chose the fish tacos. The taco plate arrived with three tacos and each individual taco had a large piece of beer battered fish. She loved them!

I ordered the spinach and potato enchilada which was incredible! The mix of the veggies and the cheese was heavenly and the enchiladas were resting on a bed of creamy cilantro rice. This was hands down one of the best Mexican dishes I've ever ordered.

Even after the second margarita pitcher had been drained and the plates had been cleared, we didn't want to get up. The atmosphere and the view at Casa is so mesmerizing, you just want to sit there forever.

Though we went for dinner, Casa also has great options at lunch. You go up to the bar and order a custom burrito to-go. During happy hour they have food specials ranging from $2 - $8 and drinks specials that include pitchers that cost $4 - $9. Is that everything you needed to hear? I thought so.

Casa was one of the most unique and beautiful dining experiences I've had. If you get the chance to travel to L.A., definitely make sure this is on your list.
