Dining Out: 24/7 Restaurant

It's my final Los Angeles blog post! I don't want the reminiscing to end! Wah.

On our final morning in L.A. we really only had time for breakfast before heading to LAX. We woke up and plopped right down in front of our trusted recommendation source, our concierge, Amy. With zero hesitation Amy said, "take a taxi to The Standard Hotel and have breakfast in their restaurant." She said, "this may sound strange, but it has an Austin Powers vibe. Trust me, you'll like it." My coworker and I looked at each other and exchanged a quizzical look, but decided to follow Amy's lead since she hadn't disappointed us yet.

When we walked out of the hotel front door it was pouring. A taxi took us to The Standard which is maybe one mile away and we ran into the lobby door trying to salvage our straightened hair.

The restaurant was easy to spot and the hostess said she could seat us right away. We crossed the threshold and entered a world of yellow! I felt like I was inside an egg.

The walls look like egg crates!

We got to sit in a very cozy, mod looking booth:

If you don't want to sit in a booth, they also have a diner style bar.

Our friendly server came over to greet us and handed us menus which had photos on the back. These looked like ugly, school photos. I'm not sure if these are "before they were stars" kinds of photos, but I thought they were bizarre.

We noticed on the menu that they serve freshly squeezed juice. My coworker ordered the orange juice and I ordered cranberry (bottled). They arrived and my cranberry was white! The elusive white cranberry, this is practically an endangered species!

My coworker also ordered a hot coffee which came with the cutest, teeniest bottle of milk.

We were torn between so many delicious breakfast items. She ultimately went with the Greek yogurt with honey, granola and fresh berries. Look how amazing this is!

I ordered the make your own omelette, choosing mushrooms and Swiss cheese for my fillings. As I have said in previous posts, I only cook with PAM and this omelette was definitely cooked in butter. Holy yum!

The omelette came with a side of home fries which were seasoned perfectly and had just the right amount of crisp. The omelette also came with a side of toast (I chose wheat) and guess what they bring along with the butter? NUTELLA!

I ripped the plastic right off that individually sized Nutella packet and spread it generously across my toast. Now this is my kind of place!

I could see my coworker eye-ing my Nutella, so I gave her my second piece of toast so she could get it on the action.

Our meal at the 24/7 Restaurant was the perfect way to end our sublime vacation. Ooops, I mean, work week! The food was delicious, the server was attentive and the design and decor were fun and unique.

We couldn't help but poke around The Standard lobby before leaving. A few shots of their welcome area:

As we pushed open the doors to hail a taxi to LAX it had stopped raining, which meant we weren't looking at the ground (like when we ran in) and we noticed the restaurant has an outdoor patio! You know how I love outdoor seating.

If you're visiting L.A. add the 24/7 Restaurant to your list. It's groovy, baby.
