Grey's Anatomy: Mother Knows Best

I read on Twitter this morning that Debbie Allen would be guest starring on tonight's episode of Grey's Anatomy as Jackson's mother. I was thrilled! Though I know she has a long history as a performer, I fell in love with her as a judge on So You Think You Can Dance. There is something very regal about Debbie, though she also maintains a serious diva swag.

Debbie did not disappoint me! In fact, for me, she was the star of this episode. As Katherine Avery she was the ultimate alpha dog. She was confident, brave, bold and unapologetic. I love love loved it!

I also totally called it that she would be digging around for scoop on Lexi. In fact, before the episode began I turned to my friend who came over to watch and said, "I bet you her character hates Lexi." Even worse, Jackson shipped Lexi out of state! She's better off, her new bangs look terrible.

I could not stop laughing at the Dr. Bailey/Ben/Eli love triangle. Watching Dr. Bailey squirm is so rare that when it happens, you have to relish in it. I thought the final scene with her and Ben, where he is walking away from her outside the hospital was perfection.

Is it just me or did Scott Foley look hotter this episode? Discuss.

It was nice to see Owen and Cristina getting along again. Though my heart did break a little when Owen had to leave the room after watching Cristina with Zola.

Speaking of Zola, that moment of silence when the elevator doors opened and a distraught Derek and Meredith looked straight into the eyes of the social worker - wow. Brutal.

At the end of the hour I loved how Katherine Avery sent a beer to a cute guy for Dr. Kepner. Such an adorable scene.

I also wondered if Katherine's comment to Jackson about Sloan, and his feelings for Lexi, is foreshadowing. Are Jackson and Lexi going to break up?

In previews for next week it seems everyone is being advised to do it. A lot. See you then!
