Dining Out: Cafe Sol

This weekend I traveled to Connecticut to go wedding dress shopping with my best friend from high school. In between our two bridal salon appointments we stopped to refuel at an adorable place called Cafe Sol in Niantic, CT.

None of us had been to Cafe Sol before, but the sign caught our attention. After we parked the car, as we walked toward the cafe we saw this:

I knew that Cafe Sol would prove to be a business focused on supporting local and sustainable food, which of course I think is fantastic!

Behind the sign is Cafe Sol's spacious, outdoor patio. I'm a huge fan of any place that has outdoor seating.

As soon as we walked through the front door I noticed all of the blackboards covered in colored chalk, which is one of my favorite design elements.

I also noticed the individually wrapped baked goods on the counter and the gorgeous cake stands they were resting on.

Though I was tempted by the hot apple cider, I decided to order a cappuccino and the other three ladies order chai.

My cappuccino came topped with cinnamon, which was perfect on the chilly, fall day.

The girls ordered a cheese quesadilla since they were feeling the need for a snack. The quesadilla arrived fresh from the pan and was at least 12 inches wide! They only managed to eat one half, but said it was delicious.

One of the staff members brought us these super cute plastic plates and cutlery for the quesadilla.

I loved the tables at Cafe Sol which all had different collages under the glass. The table we sat at promoted a local wedding photographer.

From our table we could see out the front window and watch the neighborhood go by. I also noticed a sign on the wall that said "Friends Gather Here" which I really loved. It was such a relaxing place.

I also couldn't help but notice this Halloween decoration which I had to remind myself was not ok to steal. I need this for my house!

While we were drinking our hot beverages and munching, the cafe played one great song after another - Adele, Corinne Baily Rae, Jason Mraz - just to name a few. They could have been using my iPod.

As we were walking out, I noticed that several of the chairs in the cafe had reusable bags hanging over them. Cafe Sol sells these bags to encourage greener living.

It felt great to support such a community minded business and it was an added bonus that the food and drinks were awesome. They had several veggie options on their breakfast and lunch menus that I would definitely go back for.

Cafe Sol also happens to be two doors down from a penny candy shop. More on that in the next post!
