Movie Musings: Crazy, Stupid, Love.

I knew I wanted to see "Crazy, Stupid, Love." from the moment I saw the preview. Why you ask? Three words: Ryan Gosling's abs.

Kidding aside, I love the four lead actors in this cast: Gosling, Emma Stone, Steve Carell and Julianne Moore. In this story, Moore plays a woman who has cheated on her husband (Carell) who then licks his wounds by learning to be lothario under the tutelage of Gosling.

Before I move on, can we discuss how this is the second role in a row where Julianne Moore has played the cheating spouse? "The Kids Are Alright" anyone?

For me, the highlight of this movie was the relationship between Carell and Gosling's characters. The teacher/student dynamic was perfect and some of the best laughs in the movie came from their time together.

I wouldn't say the chemistry between Gosling and his eventual only girl, Stone, was necessarily believable, but the script was hilarious. The scene where Stone approaches him in the bar and then demands to go home with him (followed by the shenangins at his house) is hands down the most entertaining scene.

There were some terrifc cameos in the film from Marisa Tomei, Kevin Bacon and Josh Groban! I can never look at Josh Groban the same way after reading the Bachelorette recap posts on I Hate Green Beans.

This film also introduced to me to two new, wonderful, young actors: Jonah Bobo and Analeigh Tipton who play Carell's son, and Carell's children's babysitter, respectively. I think this was a break out role for Tipton. Expect to see much more of her.

One of my coworkers told me yesterday before I saw the movie that she hated it, found it totally predictable and thought all the best scenes were in the trailer. I completely disagree. I was pleasantly surprised over and over again, as was the rest of the theater audience who errupted in riotous laughter and clapped during multiple scenes.

Though the two primary reasons to see this movie are undoubtedly Gosling's abs and his incredible wardrobe (high five to the stylist!), you will come away loving this crazy, stupid family.
