Dining Out: Vic's Bagel Bar

When you think of food that New York City does best, that list always includes bagels. This morning, for my final meal in New York City before returning to Boston, my friend took me to a place a few blocks from her apartment called Vic's Bagel Bar.

Vic's is the Pinkberry of bagels.

When you walk in you get in line (there always is one) and choose a type of bagel. You take inspiration for your bagel selection from the baskets upon baskets of freshly baked bagels hanging under the menu boards. The selection includes: plain, sesame, poppy seed, everything, whole wheat, egg, chocolate chip, french toast and more!

Then you choose a base for your cream cheese - regular, low fat or non fat.

Once you've got the base, you stare at the endless options to mix in to your cream cheese. Yes, you read that right, mix ins for your cream cheese. Have I died and gone to heaven? The topping list ranges from tomatoes, jalapenos, ham, bacon, strawberries, egg salad, hummus and more.

It takes a bit to come up with a combination that sounds delicious, doesn't seem like overkill and doesn't make the server stare at you like you've lost your mind.

Once you place your order and pay, there are seats all along the right side of the restaurant, as well as six stools at a bar at the front.

I opted for a sesame bagel with low fat cream cheese that had diced tomatoes and chives mixed in. Then I asked for it toasted. Oh yeah.

Are you drooling?

In additional to traditional bagels, they also have bagel holes and flagels (flattened bagels). I want it all!

If you are wondering if they make pizza bagels, duh! Of course they do. We seriously need to get this place to open a second location in Boston. Am I right people?

Visit Vic's Bagel Bar at 544 3rd Avenue (at 36th Street) in Murray Hill.
