This morning I read in the Wall Street Journal that a new exhibit is coming to the Museum of Fine Arts. I had wondered what could top Chihuly, and now I have my answer. Tomorrow, Tuesday July 19th, the museum will open the first gallery dedicated entirely to jewelry at a major U.S. art museum!
The exhibit, called "Jewels, Gems and Treasures", will feature over 75 pieces of jewelry. The Wall Street Journal article as well as the museum's website have some photos of a few of the showcased objects.
1908 brooch by designer John Paul Cooper:
Diamond earrings worn in mourning by Mary Todd Lincoln in the 1860s:
1920s brooch of cereal heiress and businesswoman Marjorie Merriweather Post:
This piece, which is featured on the museum's website, doesn't have a caption! I think it's a pill box. No matter what it is, I love the bling!
Personally, I can't wait to get to the museum and walk through the cases and installations of all these glittering confections!
This exhibit runs from July 19th - November 25th.
