Dining Out: Ross' Grill

On July 4th, after watching a wonderful parade in Provincetown, my parents and I wandered down Commercial Street in search of lunch. Many of our favorite spots were quite crowded. As we walked my mother had a light bulb moment: Ross' Grill.

Ross' Grill is a bit of a hidden gem. Located at the back of the second floor of the Whaler's Wharf shopping arcade, only a true veteran would know where to find it.

As we walked up the staircase to the restaurant both of my parents raved about previous meals they had shared at Ross' Grill.

As soon as we entered the restaurant I was struck by the incredible view. On the beach below the restaurant a young woman was giving kayak lessons and out on the water boats were bobbing up and down with the current.

Ross' Grill has a beautiful patio, but it only has benches and patio chairs, no dining tables, so we sat inside as close to the window as we could.

The decor in Ross' Grill is a bit of mix - Americana meets nautical meets consignment shop treasures. Over the fireplace was a very cool, wooden American flag (quite appropriate for the 4th).

On the beams above the bar there were wooden oars:

I particularly loved this large, family style table in front of two panes of multi-colored, frosted glass. My mother and I immediately began to think of what occasion we could use to make a reservation for that table.

We were greeted by a friendly waiter who answered my mother's litany of questions about the menu. She decided to start with the gazpacho. It came in a very generous portion but she griped that it had too much tomato juice.

For lunch she ordered the salmon sandwich, which she asked to have grilled instead of blackened. The sandwich comes with an olive tapenade, which she asked for on the side. Her side dish of choice was the white bean salad. She had both the fish and the white bean salad were fresh and delicious. She was quite happy with her selections.

My father went for the swordfish sandwich which came with a wasabi aioli. He opted for french fries on the side which were lightly salted and perfectly crisped.

I ordered the veggie burger topped with cheddar cheese. I have eaten so many veggie burgers that I am going to go ahead and say I have the authority to judge them and this particular burger was out of this world! Who knew the best veggie burger lived in Provincetown? I ate every last bite and wound up leaving over half my french fries because I was so obsessed with the burger.

If you're visiting Provincetown, make sure that Ross' Grill is on your list. They are open for lunch and dinner six days a week, closed on Tuesdays. You can find them at 237 Commercial Street.
