Summer TV: What To Watch

Recently several friends and co-workers have griped to me that now that summer is here there is nothing to watch on TV. While I agree, it is depressing that many of our favorite shows are on hiatus, I for one actually love summer TV! It's guilty pleasures, all the time. I come offering guidance. Get ready to set the DVR, below are my top picks:

SUNDAY

  • The Next Food Network Star (Food Network) - One of my college besties got me into this show last season and I am completely obsessed! The challenges are not only based on cooking skills, but TV personality and performance. I fell in love with last year's winner, Aarti Sequeira, and now DVR her show, Aarti Paarti.

  • Keeping Up With The Kardashians (E!) - Judge if you must, but late on Sunday night, when you don't want to admit you have to go to work tomorrow, this is the perfect antidote.

MONDAY

  • The Bachelorette (ABC) - Though I find Ashley Hebert annoying, the appeal of this show is undeniable. Two hours a week of gorgeous men on dream dates? The most dramatic season EVER? How can you say no?

TUESDAY

  • Pretty Little Liars (ABC Family) - At first I was ashamed to tell anyone I watch this show. However, lately, I've come to discover all my friends are watching it! Not only is the plot actually suspenseful and surprising, but the girls have one hell of a stylist and their clothing and accessories are fantastic.

  • The Voice (NBC) - Though at first I thought the allure was just the judges' swivels chairs, I have actually grown to love this show and really looking forward to the musical performances. They have some truly unique contestants who don't fit the traditional pop mold.

WEDNESDAY

  • So You Think You Can Dance (FOX) - If I could only watch one show for the rest of my life, this would be it. The dancing is incredible, host Cat Deeley is a delight and a fashion goddess and the show always introduces me to new music that I can't wait to download.

THURSDAY

  • So You Think You Can Dance (FOX) - Yes, it's two nights.
  • Real Housewives of New York City (BRAVO) - These ladies seem to only be getting nastier to each other and more loony. Like a traffic accident, I cannot turn away.

  • NY Ink (TLC) - I loved the TLC show Miami Ink and now star Ami James is back and has opened his own tattoo shop in NYC. There is only one word to describe this show: gritty.

FRIDAY

  • Say Yes to the Dress: Big Bliss (TLC) - TLC's popular wedding dress show is running a season of all plus size brides. Trust me, you'll love it. And probably cry.

SATURDAY

  • FACT: there is no good TV on Saturday.

In addition to the above mentioned TV treats, this is also a great time of year to check out shows you've always been curious about via Netflix or Hulu. My list includes:

  • The Good Wife (CBS)
  • Breaking Bad (AMC)
  • In Treatment (HBO)

So TV junkies, did I capture it all? What else are you watching?
