Dining Out: Espresso Love

A few weeks ago a new place called Espresso Love opened directly across the street from my office. Since I'm not a huge coffee drinker I never thought to go in. Then over the last two weeks as I rode the elevator back up to the 11th floor from my lunch break, I kept hearing people talk about the "amazing sandwiches from that new place across the street." Today I decided to investigate the rumors for myself.

Espresso Love has a cute sign out front with a tag line that reads, "Get Grounded." Well, who doesn't need grounding? They also have a sandwich board on the sidewalk with brightly colored markers indicating everything from store hours to new specials.

Inside, the menu hangs above the bakery case and the cash register. At first I was nervous because I didn't see many vegetarian sandwiches, but I quickly discovered that's because they have their own section of the menu!

I decided on the powerhouse sandwich - multigrain bread, havarti cheese, avocado, lettuce, tomato, sprouts and sun dried tomato pesto.

While I waited for my sandwich I poked around. At the front of the space there are plenty of tables, all with a crystal clear view of my building.

There is also a display case with Espresso Love merchandise including coffee, coffee mugs and t-shirts.

Then there was the bakery case. Muffins, scones, cookies and brownies. I will certainly be revisiting this area of the establishment.

When my name was called I grabbed my sandwich and headed out to a bench outside in the sun, right outside the entrance to the 75 State Street building. I unwrapped my sandwich to discover a pickle wrapped in there! How good does this sandwich look? Seriously.

The sandwich was super delicious! Every ingredient was fresh, particularly the bread.

Ironically, I was reading the Improper Bostonian on the T ride home tonight and there was a write up about Espresso Love. Apparently it was started nineteen years ago on Martha's Vineyard and the owner's son is the one who opened this downtown spot.

Welcome to the main land, Espresso Love.
