Dining Out: Otherside Cafe

Last night I met one of my favorite girls for dinner. She recently started working on Boylston Street in Back Bay and I love meeting her in that neighborhood for our dinner/catch up sessions. Last night we decided to check out the Otherside Cafe. Neither of us had been before, though we'd walked and driven past it a million times.

The Otherside Cafe is appropriately named, as it is on the other side of Mass Ave, the other side of Newbury Street and the other side of the Mass Pike! Did you just go, "Oh! I know exactly which place she is talking about!" Yup. You did.

We walked in the front door and the host immediately asked to check our IDs. Not something I am used to at 6:30pm on a Tuesday night. After he confirmed we were in fact over 21, he handed us two menus and said, "Sit anywhere." Well, ok then.

The restaurant has two floors and we opted to sit upstairs. From those tables you can see all the action downstairs.

Our waiter was super friendly (and cute!) and helped us decided on drinks to kick off the night. She went with the Weihenstephaner Hefeweisse beer and I selected the red wine sangria.

The beer came in a huge glass and my sangria was anchored by a ton of fresh, finely chopped fruit. Yum!

We were both ravenous after long works days so we decided to go for an appetizer. We ordered the nachos which came topped with veggie chili, jalapenos, sour cream and guacamole. Though they were quite tasty (when are nachos not tasty?) they didn't have enough cheese. It took me a while to figure out what was missing, but the minimal cheese was definitely the culprit.

For dinner she ordered the turkey ciabatta sandwich which was turkey, provolone, pesto, roasted red peppers and onion pressed to perfection. She loved it! The sandwich also came with potato chips.

For once in my life I actually had to review the menu for a solid ten minutes as it was full of vegetarian options! Most places I dine have two or three veggie options, but this was exceptional! I finally landed on the California wrap which was onion, cucumber, shredded carrots, lettuce, tomato, cucumber dill dressing, avocado, and havarti dill cheese. It was outstanding! The cucumber dill dressing was so delicious! I devoured the whole thing.

We were entirely too full for dessert, but they do have treats from Sweet Creations that are delivered daily. We passed them in the glass case on the way out and they looked delectable!

I am definitely not cool enough to hang out at the Otherside Cafe. It's one hundred percent hipster. However, the food is excellent and super vegetarian friendly. I can't wait to go back and try their house made Chex Mix and continue to work my way through their awesome vegetarian menu selections! Next up: Buffalo Tempeh sandwich!

Catch you on the Otherside.
