On Thursday night I met my parents (both in town from Miami) and two family friends for dinner at one of my favorite French restaurants, Petit Robert Bistro. I have dined at their Kenmore Square location before (see my review from that dinner here) but lately I have been venturing to their Columbus Ave, South End location which is where we dined this week.
You can spot a Petit Robert location by it's illuminated Eiffel Tower out front.
Inside, the restaurant is warm and inviting, with a romantic ambiance. Please excuse the inconsistency in the lighting of my photographs, as the mood lighting in the restaurant affected my ability to capture the food.
As we looked over the menu our waitress delivered us a basket of two warm French baguettes. Does it get better than that?
To start, I ordered the soup special - cream of broccoli. The soup was thick, rich and flavorful. I tore up some pieces of the baguette and let them go for a swim in the bowl. Delicious decision!
One of my dining companions ordered the trio of pates, which was beautifully presented. Other diners at the table ordered the smoked salmon and the beet and goat cheese salad. Everyone raved that their starter was fantastic.
For the main course, I ordered the romaine salad which came topped with Roquefort cheese. I was also considering the lemon and mushroom risotto, but decided to go light and leave room for dessert.
Two people at the table ordered the beef bourguignon, which will forever remind me of Julia Child. The dish came in a large, white bowl and the flavor just swirled out of the bowl toward your nose.
My dad ordered the scallops provencale which came with mashed potatoes, broccoli and carrots. He absolutely loved it.
After taking a serious breather, we moved onto dessert. My mother and I had tried the giant profiterole during our last visit and we knew we had to have it again. Have you ever seen a dessert this magnificent?
Two of our dinner dates split the creme brulee, which came topped with a delicate pastry.
We also sampled the sorbets of the day: lemon and passion fruit.
After four courses and three hours of catching up, we were exhausted! We left blissfully satisfied and looking forward to our next visit!
