Rental Review: Get Him To The Greek

This weekend I watched "Get Him to the Greek" starring Russell Brand. I didn't see the movie in the theater because in general I find Brand crass and unbearable. However, several friends saw the movie and assured me he was actually hilarious and that it was worth the time.

I have to say, I'm converted. Brand was crass at times, but overall he was actually kind of endearing. You found yourself laughing with him and ultimately rooting for him to succeed. I'll admit it, he charmed me.

Jonah Hill got the biggest laughs in the movie for his painfully slapstick comedy. How many times did his character throw up? Fifteen at least. His relationship with Brand's character was sincere and fun to watch. I nearly died during the scenes where Hill had to smuggle then try to score more heroin. Hysterical.

Diddy also had a sizable role in the film. From the trailer it seemed like he might just make a cameo, but he was in most of the movie and he was terrific as the "never say die" record label executive. I loved the scene where he watches the Biggest Loser with his kids, all of them wearing matching Lakers jerseys.

The movie ended on a high note with Brand's character, Aldous Snow, performing his new single "Furry Walls" inspired by his transformative night in Las Vegas. It was so stupid that it was wickedly funny.

On a night when you just need to unwind and crack up, rent "Get Him to the Greek."
