Movie Musings: Burlesque

Yesterday afternoon I saw the movie "Burlesque." I've always been a fan of movie musicals and I was hoping this would live up to the precedent set by some of my other favorites.

Though the acting was horrible, the musical numbers were fantastic! Its no secret that Christina Aguilera has some serious pipes, but they are really showcased in this film. You'll find yourself tapping, clapping and bopping along to every tune. About half way through the movie I made a mental note to download the entire soundtrack.

Though I didn't grow up with Cher as an icon, I can see why people love her. She has one power ballad in the movie that really delivers.

What surprised me about the promotion of this film is how little they mention the incredible supporting cast: Stanley Tucci, Alan Cumming, Cam Gigandet (Volchek from the O.C.), Eric Dane (Grey's Anatomy), Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars) and Julianne Hough.

I'd just like to take a moment of silence for Cam Gigandet's abs.

Ok! Back to the review. "Burlesque" is not an original script, or a mind blowing display of raw emotion. However, the singing, dancing and costumes in the film are phenomenal and will leave you smiling and dancing your way out of the aisle.
