Dining Out: Tremont 647

This morning I met my college roommate for brunch. When we decided to meet on Sunday morning, she insisted we choose a place that serves mimosas. I knew immediately we'd find a great brunch and the drink she coveted in the South End. After perusing a few menus, we both spotted one that shined brighter than all the rest - Tremont 647. What caught our eye? A little something called a homemade poptart.

In addition to the excitement around trying this poptart, I was thrilled to experience a place I had never been! Dining at new restaurants is easily on the list of my top three favorite activities!

Tremont 647 is located in the mecca of Boston's restaurant scene. It counts amongst its neighbors: Hamersleys, the Beehive, Sibling Rivalry, Pops, Aquitaine, and B & G Oysters just to name a few. Sunday brunch at Tremont 647 is pajama themed and all the staff wear their favorite PJs, which I must admit, I found completely adorable.

We checked out the drink menu first and discovered the mimosa comes in two sizes: regular and "big girl." When we asked what the difference is, our waiter let us know the "big girl" comes in a wine glass, not just a tiny champagne flute. We promptly ordered two.

We decided to start with the homemade poptart. The crust was made of the most delicious shortbread, the raspberry filling was the perfect level of sweet, and it was topped with electric blue frosting, rainbow sprinkles and confectioner's sugar. Now this is my kind of place!

I ordered the vegetable frittata which had several veggies including potato (yum!) and was topped with guacamole and cheese. Double yum. It was also served with a salad, which was ok, nothing to write home about.

My roomie ordered the eggs benedict which looked so heavenly I almost considered abandoning my vegetarianism to have a bite! Her eggs also came with salad.

Since neither of our meals came with home fries, we decided to order the appetizer special - the Creole fries. These were thin, divinely crisped fries (think McDonalds) seasoned with just the right amount of kick and served with a rich, cilantro mayo.

After licking our plates clean we were able to enjoy our sunny window seat without feeling rushed. We easily sat for 30 minutes after finishing our meal and never once did our waiter give us the evil eye or pace in front of the table waiting for the check.

Start to finish every aspect of the Tremont 647 dining experience was exceptional. If it seems out of your price range, visit on $2 Taco Tuesdays or check it out during Restaurant Week March 14 - 19 and March 21 - 26.
