The Grammys: All the Single Ladies

Last night awards season continued with the Grammy awards on CBS. The show was three and a half hours long (gasp!) but kept my attention with some pretty unique performances.

The show opened with a duet from Lady GaGa and Elton John. Aside from her ridiculous, green, sequin costume and the black tar smeared across her face (and Elton's) I actually loved the performance.

GaGa's voice was incredible (and unaffected for once) and their joint rendition of "This is Your Song" was fantastic. GaGa even changed the lyrics and sang, "I love you Sir Elton John." Cutie cute cute. Also, did you catch her change into a silver, lightening bolt costume? What was that?

Post-GaGa, Stephen Colbert came out to announce the first list of nominees and read them off an Apple iPad. Product placement much?

I loved Green Day performance with the cast of American Idiot, a new musical inspired by their music. The lead, female vocalist who opened the number was absolutely incredible. It sounded like a totally different song! It made me want to see the Broadway show!

Later we learned that apparently this is the year where Pink performs practically naked and suspended in the air at every award show. At the MTV Video Music Awards, she also donned a skin tight outfit and dangled above the crowd. One trick pony? Feels like it.

I also thoroughly enjoyed Taylor Swift's duet with Stevie Nicks! I can't imagine how lucky Taylor felt to perform with such a legend and then to go on to win album of the year over Beyonce, GaGa AND the Black Eyed Peas!

The Grammys also paid tribute to Michael Jackson with a performance from Celine Dion, Smokey Robinson, Usher, Jennifer Hudson and Carrie Underwood. It would have been perfect had they not cut to shots of A-listers wearing 3D glasses during the performance! Its hard to take Rihanna seriously as is (have you seen that hair?) but with the 3D glasses on, forget about it.

Thank you GaGa, Beyonce and Taylor Swift for repping all the single ladies! It was a great night for music fans.

Next up - the Oscars! Set the DVR for Sunday March 7th!
