How I Met Your Mother Turns 100

Preface: This post is dedicated to one of my best friends. A boy who has loyally followed this blog from day one, despite the content being 90% geared toward females. He reads and provides feedback on any post he likes and often says, "I know, I read it on your blog" (music to my ears) when I start to tell him about something I recently saw or a place I just checked out. He has asked me before to write about one of our favorite shows and tonight, as it marks it 100th episode, I dedicate this post you. You know who you are and your unconditional support means the world. You are legen-WAIT FOR IT!-dary.

Tonight CBS' sitcom "How I Met Your Mother" turned 100. All day fellow fans have been contacting me asking if I would be watching tonight. I had read in Entertainment Weekly that tonight's episode would contain a musical number and I couldn't wait for my favorite character, Barney Stinson, to burst into song!

And burst he did! Barney (played by Neil Patrick Harris) sings a passionate love song to his suit collection. No, you did not misread that. Barney always "suits up" before the leaving the house and in the 100th episode a new, hot bartender gives him an ultimatum - me or the suits. Cue, song!

In addition to the cheesy musical number (I mean that in an endearing way) we also got a glimpse into the character of "the mother." The entire show is based on stories the main character, Ted, tells his children about how he met their mother. Now, in season 5, we still have never seen "the mother" on screen. In this episode we learn where she lives, what music she likes, her favorite book, that she plays bass in a band, and that she sings show tunes while making breakfast. While I was happy to get these little nuggets of information, I want to see her face! Perhaps by episode 200 we could see at least a profile view?

The other players, Marshall, Lily and Robin, had pretty slim roles in tonight's celebration. I was hoping for a resurrection of Robin's alter ego Robin Sparkles, but no dice. Perhaps she can go on a reunion tour that "the mother" can come to! Now we're talking!

I also appreciated tonight's Tim Gunn cameo, as Barney's trusted suit tailor. Way to go, Tim! You definitely made it work!

Thank you "How I Met Your Mother" for 100 fantastic episodes. Our lives have been enriched by every Barney catch phrase, the slap bet, "Let's go to the mall", the endless Canada jokes, and the road trips in the Fiero. We look forward to the eventual reveal of "the mother" and all the funny tangents you will take us on to get to that moment.

Watch the cast talk about their favorite moments in the first 100 and be sure to tune in every Monday at 8:00 pm on CBS.
