Coldplay Featuring the Grammys

Last night's Grammy awards featured some beautiful clothes, some "fire your stylist" outfits, some deserving winners and some smash performances. In the last two years the Grammys have focused more on performances, and less on giving out all the awards in one broadcast. They give out the 10 most popular awards on air, and the rest are handed out in an off-camera ceremony. Thank you to the award show gods for listening to our prayers! More music, less awards for people we've never heard of!

Best wins of the night:

1) Jennifer Hudson for best R&B Album. After the year she has had, she deserves something good! She cried during her acceptance speech and I think the rest of America did too.
2) Adele for Best New Artist. I recently purchased her album "19" and I am LOVING it. I was also thrilled to see a normal sized girl recognized for her talent, and win the most prestigious award of the night! She beat out Duffy (who I also love), the Jonas Brothers and Lady Antebellum.
3) Coldplay for . . . every other award. I think I watched Coldplay take home at least three awards. One member (I only know Chris Martin's name) apologized to Paul McCartney for stealing the Sergeant Pepper outfits. HA!

Best performances of the night:

1) Carrie Underwood singing "Last Name". Although her outfit with the billowy sleeves was questionable, she KILLED the song. You can't help but sing along!
2) Paul McCartney singing "I Saw Her Standing There" accompanied by Dave Grohl on drums. Awesome.
3) Justin Timberlake and TI performing "Dead and Gone". Justin's melodic voice, while he played the piano, combined with TI's rap = pop gold.

Craziest performances:

1) Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus singing "Fifteen" off of Taylor's album Fearless. First of all, Taylor wrote the song, played the guitar, and nailed the vocals. Miley sat next to her, no instrument, singing with her eyes closed, and missing half the notes. Winner by a long shot: Taylor.
2) The Jonas Brothers and Stevie Wonder singing "Burnin Up" and "Superstition". Stevie, Stevie, Stevie - what were you thinking? The Jonas Brothers are a tween boy band, who are alarmingly unattractive, and you are a Motown legend! What possessed you to stoop so low?
3) Katy Perry singing "I Kissed A Girl" on a stage with giant fruit. Arriving onto the stage in a giant, phallic banana, to sing a song about kissing a girl. WHAT?
4) Kanye West and Adele singing "American Boy". This would have been listed as one of my favorites of the night, but Kanye was rocking a Michael Jackson look that had me distracted! The hair was circa the Thriller video, the silver jacket, the black gloves . . . it was borderline imitation.
5) MIA, Lil Wayne, Jay Z, TI rapping "Swagger Like Us". If you noticed anything other than MIA's outfit during this performance, you deserve your own Grammy. What was that? A polka dot bikini? It looked like a diaper on the bottom half! Girl, that's busted.

Best fashion of the night:

1) Sara Bareilles - Love this pink dress, accented with the red, ribbon belt and red shoes
2) Fantasia Barino - the American Idol champ has lost weight, and is shining again
3) Katy Perry - Looks feminine and whimsical in her pink, flowing frock

Worst dressed:

1) MIA - Both her red carpet dress (a blue mess) and her stage costume were complete train wrecks
2) Jennifer Hudson - Not sure what was happening with the white fabric at the top of the dress, but it was all wrong
3) Coldpay - Like living crayons
4) Natalie Cole and P.Diddy - Both rocking excessively large gold chains

Overall, I was highly entertained by this year's Grammy awards. I did wonder where my girl Beyonce was (come on, you know you wanted to see her do "All the Single Ladies"), and I am still wondering what the true story is with Chris Brown and Rihanna! Two of the biggest superstars involved in the most scandalous celeb gossip story since Madonna's affair with A-rod!
